Monthly Archives: November 2014

Happy Halloween, UESiders!

May you all be enjoying your portion of the S7.4 billion we Americans will be spending on people costumes, pet costumes and candy this year!

Meanwhile, as promised last week, this week’ll be a a comparatively brief summary of what’s happening (and for the couple of weeks to come we’ll be on hiatus).

So, in the here and now:

Saturday, November 1st:  82nd Street Greenmarket

82nd Street between First and York, 9am –2pm

Compost & Clothes Collection – 9am – 1pm

Rain or no rain, at their tables will be American Seafood, Bread Alone, Samascott, Cherry Lane, Gajeski, Rising Sun Beef, Fresh Radish, Nature’s Way Farms and Valley Shepherd Creamery!

Great to see we market goers have discovered Nature’s Way’s lovely honey, soaps, lotions and more!

This week’s wisdom from Market Manager Jesse is:

“Likely you’ve noticed the broccoli heads the size of BASKETBALLS that Lew’s growing, but have you checked out Valley Shepherd’s outstanding PASTA? We’ll be celebrating both of these glorious things with this week’s a wonderful demo of Gnocchi and Broccoli with Carmelized Garlic – courtesy of Samascott Orchards. Don’t miss it!  And, of course, the best way to shake off those cobwebs from Halloween night?  Apple cider donuts and, as always, the best local produce, meat, chicken, fish and cheese a New Yorker could want!”

Happy to say, our Master Knife Sharpener will be with us, too!

Last week’s recycling totals: 72 lbs batteries;  15 lbs cords, corks, cellphones and cartridges; 18 bins of compost (9 each of the last two weeks); 50 bags of clothes (15 and 35) .

(Absolutely, you can compost that Halloween pumpkin!)

Sunday, November 2nd:  92nd Street Greenmarket

NO MARKET THIS WEEK…

ENJOY THE MARATHON!!

SEE YOU NEXT WEEK!

Last week’s recycling totals:  35 lbs batteries; 4 lbs cords, cellphones and cartridges; 4 bins of compost; 2 1/4 giant bins of clothes (the equivalent of 4 1/2 giant bags at 82nd Street).

Yes, 4 1/2 bags of clothes!!

We’ll be back and even greener soon,

UGS
